Key areas of engagement
  • Trade:
Total trade between the two countries grew by 136.6% in 2023, driven by exports of manufactured goods and rubber products from Malaysia and chemicals from Zimbabwe.

  • Education:
Education Malaysia Global Services (EMGS) visited Harare to promote Malaysia as a study destination, and a Malaysia Education Fair was held in January 2025 for Zimbabwean students.

  • Diplomatic and political:
Engagement includes discussions on foreign policy and economic diplomacy, and a recent lecture at the Zimbabwe Foreign Service Institute. Zimbabwe has also sought Malaysia’s support to re-enter the Commonwealth.

  • Tourism:
The Embassy of Malaysia in Harare participated in the Spotlight Travel Expo to promote the “Visit Malaysia 2026” campaign and explore joint marketing opportunities.

  • Other cooperation:
Cooperation also occurs through international forums like the UN and NAM, and through the Malaysia Technical Cooperation Programme (MTCP). There is also potential for defense collaboration, with a benchmarking visit planned for the Zimbabwe Defence Forces to Malaysia.
